UN Secretary-General Reaffirms Strong Support for Bangladesh

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres reaffirmed the UN’s unwavering support and solidarity with Bangladesh during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman at UN headquarters in New York yesterday.

In the meeting, the Secretary-General congratulated the newly formed government of Bangladesh and lauded the country’s consistent humanitarian leadership, particularly for providing refuge to displaced Rohingya communities.

The discussions also covered various contemporary global issues. Foreign Minister Rahman highlighted the challenges faced by developing and vulnerable countries amid the ongoing global energy crisis, emphasizing its disproportionate and inequitable impact on poorer nations.

On behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Foreign Minister extended an invitation for the UN Secretary-General to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time. The Secretary-General gratefully accepted the invitation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations to address global challenges and advance sustainable development.
