Police in Florida, USA, have officially identified the body of Nahida Sultana Bristy, a PhD student at the University of South Florida who had been missing following a brutal double murder. The Florida Police Department confirmed on Friday (May 1) that the second body recovered belongs to Bristy.
Golam Mortoza, Press Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, confirmed that following forensic verification, official procedures have begun to return her remains to Bangladesh as per her family's request.
Earlier, on April 26, police discovered a body matching Bristy’s clothing description near the same bridge where the remains of another student, Jamil Ahmed Limon, were found. Meanwhile, Limon’s body is scheduled to be flown from Orlando International Airport on Saturday (May 2) night via Emirates Airlines. It is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday morning, May 4. The Bangladesh government is covering all costs associated with the repatriation of Limon’s remains.
The two talented PhD students had been missing since April 16. Their disappearance led to the arrest of Limon’s roommate, Hisham Abu Gharbieh, who has been charged with the double homicide. The confirmation of Bristy’s death has cast a deep shadow of grief over their families and classmates in America and Bangladesh. The bereaved families are now demanding exemplary punishment for the killer and the swift return of Bristy’s body to her homeland.
