EU Ambassador Meets Opposition Leader and Jamaat Chief

Shafiqur Rahman, the Leader of the Opposition and Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, held a courtesy meeting with Michael Miller, the Ambassador of the European Union to Bangladesh.

The meeting took place on Thursday at the Office of the Opposition Leader in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Sebastian Rieger-Brown, Political First Secretary of the European Union, was also present during the discussion.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on several issues of mutual interest concerning Bangladesh and the European Union. Discussions focused on strengthening democracy following the national parliamentary elections, advancing the ongoing reform process, and implementing the outcomes of the referendum.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of taking appropriate measures to ensure that the upcoming local government elections are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.

Both sides expressed hope that the existing relationship, cooperation, and progress between Bangladesh and the European Union would continue to grow in the future.

Also present alongside the Jamaat chief were Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Opposition Leader, and APS Mohammad Nazrul Islam.
