The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu has presented premium Bangladeshi mangoes to Nepal’s president and other distinguished figures as a gesture of goodwill and diplomatic friendship, reinforcing the warm ties between the two neighboring countries.
As part of the initiative, the embassy distributed more than 1,750 kilograms of high-quality Bangladeshi mangoes to prominent personalities in Nepal, including senior government officials, ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, civil society representatives, and close friends and well-wishers of Bangladesh.
According to embassy officials, mango packages were delivered to more than 360 distinguished recipients, including Nepal’s President, the Speaker of Parliament, members of the Cabinet, and other high-ranking dignitaries.
The mangoes were freshly harvested from two orchards in Chapainawabganj, a district widely known as the “Mango Capital” of Bangladesh. To ensure freshness and quality, the fruit was transported to Kathmandu through the Banglabandha land port, crossing via the Fulbari border point near Siliguri in India and Nepal’s Kakarbhitta border.
The gift packages featured the locally renowned Geographical Indication (GI)-certified “Khirsapat” variety, one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated mangoes and a fruit widely admired across South Asia for its exceptional taste and quality.
The embassy described the initiative as a reflection of the longstanding friendship and close people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and Nepal. Officials noted that the goodwill gesture symbolizes warmth, mutual respect, and diplomatic camaraderie, while helping to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu also expressed sincere gratitude to all individuals and organizations whose contributions helped make the unique “Mango Diplomacy” initiative a success.
The program highlights how cultural and agricultural products can serve as effective tools of public diplomacy, fostering stronger connections and goodwill between countries beyond traditional diplomatic engagement.
