The QS World University Rankings 2027, released on Thursday, once again placed the University of Dhaka as Bangladesh’s highest-ranked university, securing a position among the world’s top 600 institutions.
The University of Dhaka maintained its status as the country’s leading university, while Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) ranked second nationally, placing within the 711–720 bracket globally.
North South University (NSU) emerged as the third-highest-ranked university in Bangladesh and the top-ranked private university in the country, securing a position in the 901–950 range worldwide. All three institutions were also included among the world’s top 1,000 universities in the previous QS rankings.
This year, QS evaluated 1,504 universities from around the globe. The QS World University Rankings are widely regarded as one of the most recognized international benchmarks for assessing the quality and performance of higher education institutions.
A total of 13 universities from Bangladesh were featured in the latest rankings. Among them were eight public universities, four private universities, and one international university.
Other Bangladeshi institutions included in the rankings are BRAC University and Daffodil International University, both placed within the 1001–1200 category.
Several other universities were listed in the 1401+ category, including the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Bangladesh Agricultural University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), and the University of Rajshahi.
Commenting on the achievement, North South University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury said the institution’s continued position as the country’s leading private university reflects the collective dedication and hard work of its students, faculty members, staff, and alumni.
“This recognition is the result of the combined efforts and commitment of our entire university community,” he said. “The international acknowledgment will further inspire us to achieve greater excellence in education, research, and global engagement.”
The latest rankings highlight the growing presence of Bangladeshi universities on the global higher education landscape, with several institutions continuing to strengthen their international standing through academic performance, research output, and global collaboration.
