Australia Pledges Additional A$25.25 Million in Support for Rohingya Refugees and Host Communities

Australia has announced an additional A$25.25 million in humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh.

The announcement was made on Monday following the signing of an agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), according to the Australian High Commission in Dhaka.

Australian High Commissioner said the new funding reflects Australia's long-standing commitment to supporting Bangladesh in responding to the Rohingya crisis and standing alongside displaced people. He also reaffirmed Australia's commitment to continuing humanitarian assistance in coordination with international partners.

The envoy noted that the contribution forms part of Australia's three-year A$370 million humanitarian assistance package for addressing the ongoing crises in both Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Since the Rohingya influx began in 2017, Australia has provided more than A$1.25 billion in humanitarian assistance to support Rohingya refugees and affected communities.

The latest funding will strengthen essential humanitarian services for Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar, including protection, education, healthcare, shelter, and livelihood support, while also assisting the local host communities.
