Bangladesh is continuing its efforts to bring former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed back to the country, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Saturday.

Speaking at a ceremony honoring 15 police officers for their bravery and professional excellence at the Secretariat, the minister said the government had promptly responded to requests from Interpol regarding the case.

“Interpol had asked for case-related documents within 30 days. We sent all the necessary documents to Dubai by email within three days,” Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters in response to a question.

The Home Minister said the process of seeking Benazir Ahmed’s return remains ongoing, though he did not provide further details about the next steps.

Addressing the country's law and order situation, Salahuddin Ahmed expressed confidence that security conditions would continue to improve. Referring to a recent robbery incident in Mohammadpur, he noted that law enforcement agencies had taken action within five hours of the crime.

“There are no criminals involved in such incidents who remain beyond the reach of law enforcement,” he said.

Responding to another question regarding the upcoming anniversary of the Awami League on June 23, the minister said the government did not perceive any security threat related to the occasion.

He added that law enforcement agencies would remain on high alert to ensure that the Awami League, whose activities have been banned, would not be able to carry out any organizational programs or activities.

The remarks came during a recognition ceremony organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs to honor police officers for demonstrating exceptional courage and efficiency in the line of duty.
