India has announced the resumption of tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens after nearly two years of restrictions. The announcement was made on Thursday by India's newly appointed High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, during an event at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka.

According to the High Commissioner, applications for tourist visas will be accepted starting from June 28.

Trivedi stated that tourist visas will initially be issued through five visa application centers located in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Sylhet, and Rajshahi. He added that the service will gradually be expanded to other centers across the country.

India had significantly curtailed visa services for Bangladeshi nationals following the events of August 5, limiting the issuance of most visa categories except medical visas.

Dinesh Trivedi, who was recently appointed as India's Ambassador to Bangladesh, arrived in the country on June 12 to assume his new responsibilities.

Earlier on Thursday, Trivedi formally presented his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban. Following the ceremony, he attended the IVAC event where he officially announced the reopening of tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens.
