Bangladesh's Minister for Commerce, Industries, Textiles and Jute, Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, held a courtesy meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen and his delegation at a luxury hotel in Sylhet on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on a range of issues, including Sylhet's development, the contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates—particularly the Sylheti diaspora in the United States—the potential of the tourism sector, the use of digital technology, and the expansion of bilateral trade and investment.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Muqtadir said the discussions highlighted Sylhet's rich cultural heritage, the prospects of its tourism industry, and opportunities to accelerate the region's development by leveraging the United States' technological expertise. The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening Bangladesh-U.S. relations, expanding trade and economic cooperation, exploring potential U.S. investment in the Sylhet region, and deepening people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The minister expressed hope that such engagements would further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and the United States while promoting greater economic cooperation and mutual development.
Earlier in the day, U.S. Ambassador Brent T. Christensen paid a courtesy call on Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Administrator of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC), at the city corporation headquarters.
During the meeting, Ambassador Christensen praised Sylhet's natural beauty and was briefed on the city corporation's public service initiatives. Administrator Chowdhury welcomed the ambassador with flowers and provided an overview of the SCC's ongoing development projects, civic services, and urban development initiatives.
