NCP Leaders Hold Satirical Anti-Extortion Campaign in Bangladesh

Abdullah, along with the party’s Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, staged a satirical and unconventional protest against the ongoing culture of extortion in Bangladesh.

As part of the campaign, the two leaders organized a symbolic "Public Begging and Rehabilitation Donation Box" initiative, calling for an end to extortion and political rent-seeking.

A procession led by Hasnat Abdullah and Nasiruddin Patwary took place on Monday afternoon, during which participants chanted slogans including, "If you need alms, then beg—give up extortion," and "Break it down, destroy the hideouts of extortionists."

Earlier, Hasnat Abdullah had announced the campaign through a verified Facebook post, revealing plans to set up a symbolic "Rehabilitation Donation Box" at Banglamotor in the capital and launch a public fundraising drive as an alternative to extortion.

In the post, he wrote, "After 17 years, it's time for a public begging campaign for the starving leaders and activists of the former ruling party. Donate—your one taka may help keep someone away from the path of extortion."

Explaining the purpose of the initiative, the NCP leader urged citizens to support the symbolic campaign, saying, "Donate, stop extortion. Join the national rehabilitation effort for extortionists who have gone hungry for the past 17 years."
