A convoy of ships from the international mission Global Sumud Flotilla has departed for Gaza, carrying humanitarian aid. Two vessels set sail from the Greek island of Syros on Sunday evening, aiming to break Israel's blockade on Gaza and deliver much-needed assistance to the famine-stricken region.

The news was reported by the AFP agency from the island of Syros in Greece.

Around 500 people gathered at the Ermoupolis port in Greece, waving Free Palestine banners, to bid farewell to the Greek-flagged ships carrying aid to Gaza.

Crew member Kostas Forikos, 39, stated, "This is a way to show Israel that no one should have the right to force people into starvation. It's also a way to show solidarity with the people of Gaza who are enduring unimaginable suffering."

Another crew member, Angeliki Savanthoglou, added, "The goal of this flotilla is to pressure our governments to stop bilateral cooperation with Israel and to put an end to this genocide. We want this massacre to stop."
