The Iranian government has declared three days of national mourning on Sunday evening following the deaths of numerous people in multiple violent clashes during ongoing protests over severe economic hardships. The office of the President stated that both the President and the Cabinet are observing the mourning in memory of the deceased.
According to the official statement, the national mourning is being held to honor those who were killed during Iran’s resistance movement against the U.S. and Israeli governments.
The statement further highlighted that the Iranian people have witnessed how criminals, employing ISIS-like brutal tactics, targeted ordinary citizens, Basij volunteers, and police officers, resulting in numerous deaths.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the government is working in coordination with security agencies to restore internet connectivity quickly, including access at embassies and government ministries. Araghchi also criticized warnings of intervention by former U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming that such actions were inciting further unrest in the protests.
In response to the ongoing violent demonstrations, the Iranian government has called for a national rally in support of the Islamic Republic, scheduled for Monday.
In an interview with the state broadcaster IRIB, President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that while the government is prepared to address the country’s economic challenges, it will show no tolerance toward rioters.
