Russia’s Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has dismissed Western claims of a potential Russian or Chinese threat to Greenland, calling them “scary fairy tales” and fabricated narratives.
In an interview given at his residence on Monday, Medvedev said Western leaders were deliberately invoking Russia and China to create an atmosphere of fear in order to justify their own actions and protect their strategic interests.
He argued that the current tensions surrounding Greenland pose a significant challenge to Atlantic unity, suggesting the issue could expose internal divisions among Western countries. Medvedev hinted that the situation might ultimately be resolved through non-military and calmer means, possibly even before any military intervention or internal disputes emerge within the NATO alliance.
He categorically rejected the notion of any aggressive intent by Russia or China toward Greenland, calling such claims entirely baseless.
Medvedev’s remarks come at a time when global powers are increasingly focused on Greenland’s strategic location and vast mineral resources, fueling geopolitical competition in the Arctic region. NATO has repeatedly accused Russia and China of attempting to expand their influence in the Arctic and near the North Pole.
According to Medvedev, these accusations lack any factual foundation and amount to a politically motivated propaganda campaign aimed at advancing Western geopolitical agendas.
