he United States and Iran have agreed to develop a roadmap aimed at reaching a final peace agreement within 60 days following marathon talks at the Bürgenstock Resort.

The breakthrough was announced on Monday in a joint statement issued by the mediating countries, Pakistan and Qatar.

The negotiations, which began on Sunday and concluded on Monday, were held under the framework of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” (Islamabad MoU), signed by the two sides last Thursday. The interim peace arrangement was designed to help bring an end to the conflict that began in late February. Shehbaz Sharif signed the agreement in his capacity as mediator.

The meeting marked the second round of direct talks between Washington and Tehran, following an initial round held in Islamabad in April.

According to the joint statement, the Lake Lucerne Summit concluded in a highly positive and constructive atmosphere. A high-level committee has been established to oversee the political aspects of the process between the United States and Iran.

Under the committee’s supervision, the chief negotiators from both countries will lead working groups focused on nuclear issues, the lifting of US sanctions, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

The statement also announced the establishment of a direct communication hotline between the United States and Iran for the next 60 days. The measure is intended to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and prevent potential misunderstandings between the two sides.

Mediators said technical negotiations would begin immediately, with the goal of drafting the framework for a comprehensive final agreement within the agreed 60-day period.
