Ahead of upcoming nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a meeting with his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, warning the United States against reaching any agreement that runs counter to Iran’s national interests.
The meeting took place in Muscat, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations between Iran and Oman, the Iran–US nuclear negotiations, as well as recent regional and international developments.
Referring to Iran’s approach to diplomacy in safeguarding national interests, Araghchi stressed that Tehran is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and national security against any excessive demands or adventurism. He emphasized that Iran would not accept an agreement that undermines its core interests.
Oman’s Foreign Minister praised Iran’s goodwill, sense of responsibility, and seriousness in the diplomatic process, and highlighted the commitment of regional countries to reducing tensions. He expressed hope that goodwill from all parties and timely steps would help pave the way for a sustainable agreement.
During the meeting, Iran presented its perspectives and proposals regarding the agenda, demands, and considerations related to the talks. Earlier, Araghchi had also met with a US delegation led by Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Muscat.
Meanwhile, Oman’s Foreign Ministry said discussions with Iran and the United States have focused on preparing suitable conditions for the resumption of “diplomatic and technical” negotiations. Araghchi arrived in Muscat a day earlier to take part in talks with Washington.
