Five nations, including Indonesia and Morocco, have pledged to deploy troops to the Gaza Strip as part of US President Donald Trump’s "Board of Peace" initiative. The forces will serve under the newly formed International Stabilization Force (ISF), according to an Al Jazeera report.
During the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace held in Washington on Thursday (Feb 19), ISF Commander General Jasper Jeffers announced that Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, and Albania have officially agreed to send personnel to the Palestinian territory.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who attended the summit, confirmed that his country is ready to contribute up to 8,000 troops to ensure the success of the peace initiative. Additionally, Kazakhstan will deploy military and medical units, while Morocco has committed to sending police officers. Albania has also joined the list of contributing nations. Meanwhile, Egypt and Jordan will support the mission by training a new Palestinian police force, starting operations from the city of Rafah.
President Trump, presiding over the summit, stated that nine member states have already pledged $7 billion toward a Gaza reconstruction fund. The ISF aims to eventually mobilize a combined force of 12,000 police officers and 20,000 soldiers to maintain security and order in the region.
