The Fourth India–Africa Union Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi from May 28 to 31 has been postponed due to concerns over an Ebola outbreak, according to a mutual decision by all parties involved.
Citing an official notification, The Indian Express reported that the India–Africa Union summit was deferred in light of a worsening public health situation in parts of Africa, where Ebola has reportedly reached epidemic levels.
The decision was taken after a series of consultations between the Government of India, the Chairperson of the African Union, and the African Union Commission.
The statement noted that both sides reviewed the evolving Ebola situation across several African countries. It also emphasized ongoing support for Africa CDC and relevant national institutions to help contain and respond to the outbreak.
The notification further highlighted the importance of ensuring full participation and engagement of African leaders and stakeholders in the summit process. In view of the health emergency, both sides agreed that holding the summit at this time would not be feasible.
It was also agreed that the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit will be held at a later date to be decided in consultation between the parties.
