British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued a strong warning to billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, accusing him of attempting to interfere in British politics and deepen social divisions following a highly controversial murder case that has sparked nationwide outrage.

The dispute centers on the death of 18-year-old Henry Nowak, who was fatally stabbed in Southampton in December 2025. Public anger intensified after police body-camera footage released this week showed officers handcuffing the wounded teenager and initially treating him as a suspect after his attacker falsely claimed to be the victim of a racist assault. The footage prompted widespread criticism of police conduct and allegations of racial bias.

Following the release of the video, Musk used his social media platform, X, to criticize British policing and suggest that white people face discriminatory treatment. His comments quickly gained attention and fueled political debate.

Responding on Thursday, Starmer accused Musk of trying to inflame tensions rather than contribute constructively to the discussion.

“Musk has been interfering in our politics in the last few days, trying to whip up division,” the prime minister said, adding that such behavior does not reflect British values of tolerance and reason.

While acknowledging serious concerns about the police response, Starmer condemned violent protests that erupted following the release of the footage and stressed that the tragedy should not be exploited for political purposes.

The prime minister also met privately with Nowak’s family at Downing Street. According to government officials, the family described the treatment of their son as inhumane but urged politicians and activists not to use his death to promote division or hatred.

The clash marks the latest chapter in an increasingly tense relationship between Starmer and Musk. Earlier this year, Musk publicly criticized Starmer’s record as a former prosecutor, while Starmer has also backed legal action taken by Labour MP Jess Asato against Musk’s artificial intelligence company over alleged AI-generated fake images.

The controversy comes at a sensitive time for Musk, whose aerospace company SpaceX is reportedly preparing for a major public offering, while his social media platform X continues to face scrutiny over its role in political discourse and content moderation.

As investigations into the police handling of the Nowak case continue, the incident has become a focal point in broader debates over policing, race relations, free speech, and the influence of powerful technology figures on domestic politics.
