A US official has stated that American forces did not participate in intercepting any of the ballistic missiles launched by Iran toward Israel, contradicting earlier claims by Israeli officials that the United States assisted in Israel’s air defense operations and helped shoot down some of the incoming missiles.

According to the US official, American military assets were not involved in intercepting any of the missiles fired by Iran. The statement marks a notable shift from previous episodes of Iran-Israel tensions, during which the United States deployed significant missile defense capabilities to help protect Israel from Iranian attacks.

Earlier on Monday, an Israeli military official claimed that the United States had supported Israel’s air defense efforts and had participated in intercepting several Iranian missiles. However, the subsequent statement from the US official directly rejected that assertion.

The conflicting accounts have raised new questions about the extent of Washington’s direct military involvement in the latest round of hostilities between Iran and Israel. Analysts suggest that the US position may indicate a more cautious strategy aimed at preventing the conflict from expanding while avoiding direct military engagement.

Despite not participating in missile interceptions, close coordination between the US and Israeli militaries reportedly continued throughout the operation. The official told CNN that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) maintained communication with the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) during overnight military activities.

During that period, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ayal Zamir reportedly held at least two conversations with CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper. The discussions are believed to have focused on the evolving security situation and regional tensions.

Washington’s stance carries significant implications amid ongoing instability in the Middle East. While the United States continues to maintain its role as Israel’s principal security partner, observers believe it is simultaneously seeking to avoid direct military involvement that could trigger a broader regional conflict.

Analysts note that if tensions between Iran and Israel continue to escalate, the future role of the United States and its position within the region’s security framework could become one of the most important subjects of international diplomatic discussion.
