Lebanon Prepares for Fifth Round of Border and Peace Talks with Israel

Lebanon's top political leadership has initiated comprehensive preparations for a crucial fifth round of direct diplomatic negotiations with Israel, scheduled to commence on June 22.

President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam convened a high-level strategy meeting to finalize Beirut's parameters for the upcoming talks, according to an official statement released by the presidency. Both leaders categorized the recent Washington-Tehran memorandum of understanding as a highly positive catalyst capable of de-escalating regional friction and paving the way for a permanent end to the state of war.

According to the executive brief, Beirut intends to utilize the US-mediated platform to rigorously pursue a series of non-negotiable sovereign demands. Lebanon's strategic objectives include brokering a binding, permanent ceasefire and securing the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied Lebanese territories. Furthermore, the framework mandates the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces right up to the internationally recognized blue line, the immediate repatriation of Lebanese detainees, and the official launch of reconstruction projects in conflict-ridden border zones.

Bolstering Lebanon's diplomatic posture, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reiterated its firm stance on the operational scope of the peace roadmap. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Tuesday that any regional resolution would remain fundamentally incomplete unless Israeli forces completely evacuate the zones occupied during the recent military campaigns.

International analysts view this upcoming diplomatic engagement as a direct byproduct of the strategic alignment between Washington and Tehran. As the June 22 summit approaches, the international community remains focused on whether this renewed diplomatic push can successfully restore Lebanon's territorial integrity and establish a verifiable security apparatus along the volatile border.
