The Long Island chapter of the Muslim Ummah of North America - MUNA held an education meeting on Sunday, May 3, at the Shelter Rock Islamic Center in Long Island, New York.

The meeting was presided over by Chapter President Afzalur Nur Mun and conducted by General Secretary Foyez Mohammad Ziauddin. Special discussions were presented by former MUNA National Presidents Abu Ahmed Nuruzzaman and Dr. Saidur Rahman Chowdhury.
Among the chief guests were MUNA National Executive Director Arman Chowdhury, CPA; Majlish-e-Shura member and NAHAR Chairman Dr. Ataul Haque Osmani; New York North Zone President Mominul Islam Majumdar; and prominent businessman Abul Hossain. Engineer Masudur Rahman, Secretary of MUNA New York North Zone, was also present.
Speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening sincere faith in Allah and His Messenger, along with acquiring knowledge of the Qur’an and Hadith, for the expansion of Islamic outreach. They noted that fostering brotherhood and presenting the true essence of Islam is a moral responsibility of every believer.

The speakers also highlighted that, in today’s society, there is no alternative to sound faith and proper understanding of Islamic teachings for advancing religious work. Alongside Da’wah efforts, they stressed the need to expand social welfare initiatives and build strong relationships across all segments of society. Maintaining good relations with neighbors was also described as a key teaching of Islam.
They further stated that achieving the goals of Islamic movements requires strong moral character, unity, and preservation of a healthy religious environment. Emphasizing compassionate outreach, they said the message of Islam should be conveyed to all, adding, “Where there are Muslims, there should be Halaqah,” as a path to success in both this world and the hereafter.
The discussion also highlighted the characteristics of believers, hypocrites, and disbelievers as described in the Qur’an, with particular emphasis on the qualities of Ibadur Rahman mentioned in Surah Al-Furqan.
The meeting concluded with a large turnout of community members, and partial changes were made to leadership roles within the chapter and sub-chapters.
