Ticket prices for next year’s Hajj pilgrims who will travel to Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh will decrease by about Tk 5,000 as the government has withdrawn excise duty on air tickets.
The Internal Resources Division (IRD) issued a notification to this end today.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) said this is not the first time the excise duty on Hajj air tickets has been waived. In the past, the board has given such exemptions several times.
Usually, travel tax or excise duty is collected from passengers when tickets are sold and deposited into the government treasury.
According to the Islamic calendar, the Hajj is expected to take place on May 26 next year, depending on the sighting of the moon. In 2026, a total of 78,500 people from Bangladesh will have the opportunity to perform Hajj.
