Veteran Grand Mosque Muezzin Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Al-Madani Dies in Makkah

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Al-Madani, one of the veteran muezzins of the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram) in Makkah, has died.

He passed away on Monday during the Fajr prayer in the holy city, according to an announcement shared on the Haramain Sharifain X account.

Sheikh Ibrahim was a member of the Mukabbiriyyah of Masjid al-Haram, a group of muezzins responsible not only for calling the adhan (call to prayer) but also for relaying the imam's takbir to worshippers when required.

Masjid al-Haram has 24 regular muezzins. Six of them are assigned each day to deliver the five daily calls to prayer as well as the first adhan for Fajr. Sheikh Ibrahim was particularly well known for delivering the Fajr adhan and leading the takbir during congregational prayers.

According to available information, his final adhan at the Grand Mosque was delivered on 11 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH. Numerous recordings of his adhan, Hajj and Eid takbir, and other recitations remain widely circulated among worshippers.

Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani was born in Madinah in 1397 AH. He memorized the Holy Quran under the guidance of his family from an early age.

He began his journey as a muezzin at the age of 15, delivering the adhan at a neighborhood mosque in Madinah. In 1428 AH, he was appointed muezzin at Al-Maddah Mosque in Madinah before being officially appointed as a muezzin of Masjid al-Haram in 1439 AH.

Having grown up in Madinah, Sheikh Ibrahim developed a deep familiarity with the Madani style and melody of the adhan. His father later took him to Makkah, where he became acquainted with the distinctive Makkan tradition of the call to prayer.

During his time in Makkah, he also met the late Sheikh Abdul Latif Mulla, one of the former muezzins of Masjid al-Haram. The experience allowed Sheikh Ibrahim to learn and preserve the characteristics of both the Makkan and Madinan traditions of the adhan, making him one of the mosque's most respected voices.

His passing marks the end of the distinguished service of a muezzin whose voice accompanied worshippers at Islam's holiest mosque for many years.
