Iran has firmly rejected proposed new U.S. sanctions and reported plans for land and maritime blockades, saying such measures will have no impact on Tehran's policies.
Speaking on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the proposed U.S. sanctions, including what he described as a planned land blockade, would not alter Iran’s stance.
“Such measures will have no impact on Iran’s position,” Baghaei said.
He accused Washington of remaining trapped in what he called a “vicious cycle of war, discrimination, pressure, and sanctions” that has continued since the 1953 military coup in Iran.
Baghaei argued that previous U.S. policies—including the “crippling sanctions” imposed under Democratic administrations and the “maximum pressure” campaign during President Donald Trump’s first term—had failed to achieve their objectives.
“They cut off access to medicines for our people and tried every possible means to pressure Iran,” he said, adding that the United States ultimately “chose the path of illegal military aggression.”
The spokesperson maintained that renewed sanctions and blockade measures would be no more effective than previous efforts.
“Be assured that these approaches—methods that have already been tried and failed—will not produce different results in the future,” he said.
