Astronomical Calculations Suggest Ramadan 2027 Could Begin on February 8

Astronomical calculations have provided preliminary dates for the start of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2027 (1448 AH), although the final dates will depend on the official sighting of the crescent moon.

According to a Saudi Arabian website specializing in the Hijri calendar, Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin in the Middle East on Monday, February 8, 2027.

Based on astronomical projections, the crescent moon for Ramadan will be observed on the 29th day of Sha'ban, which falls on Saturday. However, astronomers expect the month of Sha'ban to complete 30 days, ending on Sunday, February 7. As a result, the holy month of fasting is likely to commence the following day, Monday, February 8.

The website has also published preliminary estimates for Eid al-Fitr. According to the calculations, Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to last 29 days, concluding on Monday, March 8, 2027. If that projection proves accurate, Eid al-Fitr would be celebrated on Tuesday, March 9, 2027.

Islamic months are determined by the sighting of the new crescent moon rather than astronomical calculations alone. Therefore, the official start of Ramadan and the date of Eid al-Fitr will ultimately be confirmed by the relevant religious authorities after moon sighting observations.
