Chinese President Xi Jinping to Visit U.S. for Talks With Trump on Bilateral Ties, Global Issues

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the United States from Sept. 23 to 25 at the invitation of President Donald Trump, China's Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

During the visit, Xi and Trump are expected to hold talks on key issues affecting China-U.S. relations, as well as global peace and development, according to the ministry.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun described the visit as "historic and significant," noting that it marks an exchange of presidential visits between the two countries within a six-month period.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Guo said Beijing is committed to expanding dialogue and cooperation with Washington while properly managing differences between the two sides.

"China is ready to work with the United States to advance the well-being of both peoples and contribute to global peace, stability and prosperity," he said.

The upcoming summit comes as the world's two largest economies continue to navigate differences over trade, technology, security, and other strategic issues while seeking areas of practical cooperation.

Separately, China congratulated Russia on the successful completion of its State Duma elections.

Guo said Beijing respects the choice made independently by the Russian people through the electoral process and reaffirmed China's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Moscow.

He added that China stands ready to work with Russia to elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
