U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 10-day extension for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, citing progress in ongoing negotiations. He shared the update on Thursday via his social media platform, Truth Social.

Trump wrote that at the request of the Iranian government, the deadline for destroying energy facilities has been postponed by 10 days. The new deadline is set for 8:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday, April 6, 2026, by which time Iran must ensure the strait is reopened. He claimed that, despite “fake news” campaigns, progress is being made in talks.

Speaking to Fox News, Trump said that while Iran initially requested seven days, he granted a 10-day extension. He added, “In a sense, we have already won.”

Tensions among the United States, Iran, and Israel over the Strait of Hormuz have escalated, raising global concerns about the potential impact on international energy supplies and regional stability.
