Spirit Airlines has announced the shutdown of its operations, citing prolonged financial struggles and soaring fuel prices influenced by the ongoing Iran conflict, according to a report by Time.

In a statement released on Saturday, the budget airline said it could no longer continue operations due to sustained losses and mounting debt. All flights have already been canceled.

The airline confirmed that passengers will receive refunds for their tickets but advised them to rebook their travel plans with other carriers.

Spirit Airlines had previously attempted to restructure its business twice in 2024 and 2025 to avoid bankruptcy. However, those efforts ultimately failed as fuel prices rose sharply.

The Florida-based carrier had also been offered a $500 million support package by the administration of Donald Trump. However, disagreements over loan conditions and restructuring terms prevented a deal, leading to the company’s closure.

Founded in 1983, Spirit Airlines was widely known for its low-cost travel model, making air travel more accessible to budget-conscious passengers.
