Bangladeshis gather to celebrate 'Bangladesh Heritage Day'

In a vibrant celebration of Bangladeshi culture, New York City Mayor Eric Adams hosted the ‘Bangladesh Heritage Day’ at Gracie Mansion, his official residence, on Thursday. The event was attended by over 400 members of the Bangladeshi community, who gathered to celebrate their heritage and contributions to the city.

The residence was beautifully decorated in the style of Bangladeshi literature and culture, creating an immersive atmosphere for the guests. From afternoon to evening, Bangladeshi expatriate artists performed music, adding to the festive mood of the day. During the event, Mayor Adams honored several prominent members of the community with awards for their exceptional contributions.

Among the awardees were former Member of Parliament and editor of Weekly Thikana, M.M. Shahin, and community activist Nurul Azim, both of whom were recognized for their dedication to the community.

In his brief address, Mayor Adams praised the Bangladeshi-American community, acknowledging their significant role in enriching New York City’s cultural fabric. He emphasized that their contributions have made the city more vibrant and diverse.

Mayor Eric Adams, known for his pragmatic, progressive leadership and commitment to standing by the people, has consistently shown deep respect and recognition for the Bangladeshi-American community. This marks the third consecutive year that Bangladesh Heritage Day has been celebrated at his residence.

The event was also attended by notable members of the Bangladeshi community, including Shah Neowaz, Ataur Rahman Selim, Consul General Nazmul Huda, Mohammad Ali, Gias Ahmed, Nurul Azim, Moinul Haque Chowdhury Helal, Rokon Hakim, Fakhrul Islam Delwar, Kazi Azam, Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Kamrul Islam Soni, Abdur Rashid Babu, Boxer Selim, Ahsan Habib, Nure Alam Ziku, Jamil Ansari, Syed Rabbi, Akhtar Babul, Shah Z Choudhury, Shamim Ahmed, and Nowshad Hossain.
