Trump’s Childhood Home in New York Sells for $1.93 Million

A childhood home of US President Donald Trump in New York has been sold for $1.93 million, or roughly Tk 237.4 million. The property was once abandoned and badly deteriorated but has since been transformed into a modern residence following an extensive renovation.

The Tudor-style house, located in the upscale Jamaica Estates neighborhood of Queens, was Trump’s home until he was four years old. His father, real estate developer Fred Trump, built the five-bedroom, three-bathroom property in 1940. Ownership of the house, however, passed out of the Trump family many years ago.

According to the New York Post, developer Tommy Lin purchased the property last year for $835,000 and spent about eight months renovating it. The renovation reportedly cost around $500,000 and included a chef-grade kitchen, herringbone-patterned hardwood floors and spa-style bathrooms, along with other modern upgrades.

After a deal was reached with an undisclosed buyer in July, real estate websites reported the final sale price of $1.93 million on Friday.

Zillow records show that the property changed hands several times in recent years. In 2017, just months after Trump became president, the house was sold for $2.14 million to a company called Trump Birth Home LLC.

The property was later listed on Airbnb for a period. It featured a life-size cardboard cutout of Trump, a copy of his book The Art of the Deal, and a framed cover of People magazine featuring him.

In 2019, the house was listed for $2.9 million but failed to attract a buyer. It subsequently fell into disrepair after a burst pipe caused water damage, while mold and years of neglect further deteriorated the property. At one point, a colony of feral cats had even taken shelter there.

The recently renovated home has now been sold at a price significantly higher than its previous purchase price, bringing renewed attention to the property’s connection to the US president’s early childhood.
