Following a series of recent earthquakes that created panic across the country, Caretaker Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus convened an emergency meeting with earthquake-preparedness experts and relevant officials. The meeting began at 5 p.m. Bangladesh time on Monday at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, according to the office.

Government sources said the emergency meeting was called after four tremors were felt across the country on Friday and Saturday (21–22 November). The discussion is expected to cover the condition of vulnerable buildings in Dhaka and elsewhere, rescue capacity, emergency response planning, and measures to ensure public safety.

On Friday morning, Bangladesh experienced one of the most fatal earthquakes in decades. The 5.7-magnitude quake originated in Madhabdi of Narsingdi, just 13 kilometers from Dhaka, with its epicenter 10 kilometers beneath the surface.

At least 10 people were killed and more than 600 injured in three districts. Many buildings in Dhaka developed cracks, and in some cases structures were reported to have tilted. The panic intensified after three more tremors were felt within a few hours on Saturday.

According to sources, the Chief Adviser is discussing post-earthquake risk assessment, building safety, public awareness, emergency response capacity, and coordinated preparedness planning with the concerned authorities.
