A Bangladeshi expatriate, Abdullah Al Mamun (35), has died after being critically injured in a missile strike in Saudi Arabia. His home was in Bhorbhora village under Rasulpur Union in Gafargaon Upazila.

Family members said Mamun had planned to return home one month after Eid al-Fitr and intended to build a new house. His death has brought an abrupt end to those plans.

Mamun, the son of Shahid Saudagar, was the second among six siblings. He moved to Saudi Arabia 15 years ago seeking better economic opportunities and last visited home five years ago. He is survived by his wife, Sharmin Akter (30), and their six-year-old son, Mahedi Sheikh.

According to family sources, Mamun was seriously injured on March 8, shortly before iftar, when a missile struck a workers’ camp operated by Al Towaiq Baldia Company in Al Kharij city. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and placed on life support. Doctors declared him dead at around 11:30 pm local time on Tuesday.

The family received news of his death on Wednesday, leaving them devastated. His mother, Shahida Khatun, said they had sent him abroad in hopes of improving their financial situation and appealed to the government to bring back his body as soon as possible.

His father, Shahid Saudagar, said the family now faces an uncertain future and requested government assistance, including the repatriation of his son’s remains.

N M Abdullah Al Mamun, a local administrative official, said authorities are providing essential support to the family and have begun efforts through the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board to bring the body back quickly.

Meanwhile, Saifur Rahman, the Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh District, said local officials have been instructed to assist the family. Plans are also being considered to support their rehabilitation and financial stability after the burial.
