Iran’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, has confirmed that Tehran has granted permission for six Bangladeshi fuel vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He assured that the passage for Bangladeshi ships is operating without any problems.
Speaking at a press conference at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday, Ambassador Jahanabadi said the permission followed a request from the Bangladesh government. The Iranian National Security Council approved assistance for these six vessels. He noted that full specifications of the ships were only recently submitted by Bangladesh, allowing Iran to properly identify and facilitate their passage.
"We have received detailed specifications from the Bangladesh government last week, and work is ongoing. There are no obstacles for Bangladeshi ships to navigate the Strait of Hormuz. Iran will provide full cooperation," he said.
Regarding the broader fuel situation in Bangladesh, Jahanabadi said Iran is closely monitoring the country’s energy supply. "As a friendly nation, we want to ensure Bangladesh does not face a fuel shortage. That is why we will maintain the passage of Bangladeshi ships through the Strait of Hormuz," he added.
The ambassador also stated that 180 Bangladeshi nationals previously stranded in Iran have already returned home. He said Iran is ready to assist any other Bangladeshi citizens who wish to return.
On the ongoing Middle East conflict, Jahanabadi remarked that United States President Donald Trump is reportedly seeking an exit strategy. He emphasized that Iran has not initiated any attacks and that the conflict began with actions by the United States and Israel. Iran has only engaged in self-defense.
Jahanabadi criticized the United States’ handling of the conflict, noting that the President has made inconsistent statements throughout the day, and said that peace talks in Oman were underway before the United States escalated the conflict. "Iran has entered the war to protect itself," he said.
