Bangladesh and Morocco have officially launched their first bilateral Business-to-Business (B2B) platform, marking a significant milestone in South-South trade cooperation.

The platform was inaugurated on Tuesday in Rabat by Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam during her two-day official visit to Morocco.

The initiative is expected to create new opportunities in trade, investment, and green innovation by connecting South Asia with Morocco’s strategic gateway to Africa, Europe, and global markets.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Shama Obaed Islam said the platform aims not only to expand trade but also to build “high-value, innovation-driven, and people-centered partnerships” that would accelerate industrial development, job creation, technology transfer, and sustainable economic growth in both countries.

Highlighting Bangladesh’s strategic geographic position in South and Southeast Asia, she noted that Bangladesh is currently the world’s second-largest exporter of ready-made garments, a pharmaceutical supplier to more than 150 countries, and a rapidly growing hub for information technology, leather, ceramics, light engineering, and food processing industries.

On behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, she invited Moroccan businesses to consider Bangladesh as a promising investment destination.

The new platform has also prioritized the promotion of Bangladeshi jute and jute-based products. Bangladesh’s modernized jute industry is now producing environmentally friendly and carbon-absorbing products that are increasingly being used in the global automotive and fashion industries.

The State Minister said growing restrictions on single-use plastics across African countries are expected to significantly increase global demand for eco-friendly jute alternatives, further strengthening Bangladesh’s position as a leading supplier.

To mark the occasion, a special exhibition showcasing Bangladeshi jute products was organized at the Moroccan Chamber premises. The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Shama Obaed Islam and Hassan Sakhi, President of the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce.

The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Rabat and the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services. Around 30 leading Moroccan business representatives and a seven-member Bangladeshi business delegation participated in the program.

As part of efforts to strengthen the platform further, a high-level Moroccan business delegation is expected to visit Bangladesh in November 2026. During the visit, the delegation is likely to explore potential investment and joint venture opportunities through visits to economic zones, industrial hubs, and innovation centers.

Among others present at the event were Bangladesh Ambassador to Morocco Sadia Faizunnesa, Director General of the Department of Jute Syed Md. Nurul Basir, Director General (Africa) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdur Rouf Mondal, and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Sahela Akter.
