The National Citizen Party has issued an ultimatum to the government to open the 'July Memorial Museum' to the public by August 5, warning that citizens will otherwise take matters into their own hands and enter the premises.

The party's Convenor, Nahid Islam, made the statement on Wednesday after visiting the graves of the victims of the 2024 mass uprising at the Rayerbazar graveyard in the capital, where he also demanded the swift execution of trials related to the July killings.

Expressing deep concern over the visible delays in the investigation and judicial processes of the July massacre cases, the NCP leader urged the government to accelerate the trial proceedings. He emphasized the need to extradite fugitive suspects to face justice and demanded that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina be brought back to the country to ensure the execution of her death penalty.

Addressing the recent judicial verdict against Hasanul Haq Inu, the NCP Convenor labeled him a key accomplice of Sheikh Hasina and deemed his 10-year prison sentence insufficient. He announced that the party expects a much harsher punishment for Inu and will seek a rigorous sentence through a legal appeal.

Criticizing the government's approach to state reforms, Nahid Islam emphasized that symbolic observances of the uprising are inadequate without fully implementing the 'July Charter' and the mandate of the historical referendum. He concluded by urging the government to urgently unveil an official roadmap for the upcoming second anniversary of the mass uprising, noting that no state programs have been announced yet.
