Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed held talks with Speaker of Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran on Friday during his visit to attend the state funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Ghalibaf welcomed Ahmed and the Bangladeshi delegation, who are in Iran to participate in the official funeral ceremonies for the late Iranian leader.
Expressing deep condolences over Khamenei's death, Ahmed condemned what he described as the leader's "brutal assassination" and conveyed the solidarity of the government and people of Bangladesh with Iran and its people during the period of national mourning.
The Bangladeshi speaker also highlighted the centuries-old friendship between Bangladesh and Iran, emphasizing the deep cultural ties and longstanding people-to-people relations between the two countries.
Ahmed praised Ghalibaf for what he described as his constructive role in facilitating the recent peace memorandum between Iran and the United States. He expressed hope that the agreement would bring lasting peace, stability, and prosperity to the Iranian people and the wider region.
Reaffirming Bangladesh's support for the ongoing peace process, Ahmed said he hoped all parties would build on the current momentum to resolve outstanding issues through dialogue and diplomacy.
He also invited Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
Ahmed arrived in Tehran on Thursday to lead the Bangladeshi delegation attending the state funeral ceremonies.
He and his delegation were received at the airport by Hamid Reza Haji Babaei, Deputy Speaker of Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly.
