Police recovered the body of Tahsif Sauri, a dismissed Bangladesh Air Force officer, from the Turag River in the capital’s Uttarkhan area on Wednesday.

The body was recovered near the Rajabari river landing in Uttarkhan, according to police sources.

Sauri lived in Sector 18 of Uttara in Dhaka. He reportedly went missing on Tuesday night, and his body was recovered from the river the following afternoon.

Shahinur Zaman, duty officer at Uttarkhan Police Station, said on Thursday morning that members of the Tongi River Police Outpost had recovered Sauri’s body from the Turag River on Wednesday.

Following the recovery, the body was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

At around 2:15pm on Thursday, relatives left the hospital morgue with the body after the post-mortem examination, heading for their residence in Uttara.

According to the police inquest report, no visible injury marks were found on Sauri’s body. However, the report noted bleeding from his nose and swelling of his abdomen.

Sub-Inspector Mustafizur Rahman of the Tongi River Police Outpost prepared the inquest report on Thursday morning. Sauri’s cousin, Zahir Hasan, identified the body during the procedure.

The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is available, police said.

Sauri has been the subject of public discussion over claims that he recorded a video showing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving Bangladesh by aircraft on August 5, 2024.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and the cause of death has yet to be established.
