Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence has warned that foreign adversaries, including the United States and Israel, may attempt to target Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and destabilize the Islamic Republic.

Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib issued the warning, saying: “The enemies seek to target the Supreme Leader—sometimes through assassination attempts, sometimes through hostile attacks.” It was not immediately clear whether he was referring to any specific incident.

Earlier reports suggested that, ahead of the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran in June, threats emerged against Khamenei’s life.

Khatib directly pointed to Israel and the United States, adding: “Those who knowingly or unknowingly engage in such acts are infiltrating agents of the enemy.”

Context of Recent Hostilities

During the conflict earlier this year, Israel launched strikes on Iranian senior military officials, nuclear scientists, nuclear facilities, and even residential areas. Days later, the United States joined Israel in attacks on key Iranian nuclear installations, according to Iranian accounts.

Media reports at the time also claimed that U.S. President Donald Trump had approved an Israeli plan to assassinate the Supreme Leader during the conflict—though neither side publicly confirmed such allegations.

Iranian Leadership Expresses Concern

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said earlier this month that he had been particularly worried about Khamenei’s safety during the war.

In July, Khamenei stated that Israel’s objective during the conflict had been to weaken the Islamic Republic, sow instability, and push Iranians into the streets to overthrow the system.

The Ministry of Intelligence’s new warning signals growing concern in Tehran about foreign plots and internal vulnerabilities as tensions with the U.S. and Israel continue.
