UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that the escalating conflict in the Middle East is taking a severe toll on British citizens.
Speaking on Friday (March 20), Starmer highlighted that the war, which began in late February, has triggered a global energy crisis, driving up the costs of essential goods and services across the United Kingdom.
The Prime Minister noted that prices for oil, gas, and daily staples like bread, pasta, and fresh produce have surged. Notably, the cost of 'red diesel' for fishing vessels has skyrocketed by 73%, leading to a sharp rise in seafood prices. Starmer emphasized that the ongoing instability poses a major risk to household budgets and warned that a prolonged conflict would further exacerbate the cost-of-living crisis. He advocated for a swift diplomatic resolution through negotiations with Iran as the most effective way to stabilize global markets and protect the British economy.
