Global concerns over energy supply and trade disruptions are mounting amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, following the reported closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
In response to the escalating situation, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, reiterated his call for ensuring freedom of navigation.
During a telephone conversation on Saturday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Modi strongly condemned attacks on critical regional infrastructure. He warned that such actions threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains.
According to reports, this marks the second conversation between the two leaders since the conflict began. In a post on the social media platform X, Modi said he extended greetings for Eid and Nowruz, expressing hope that the festivals would bring peace, stability, and prosperity to the region.
He also emphasized the importance of ensuring the security of international shipping routes and maintaining uninterrupted maritime traffic.
The crisis escalated after February 28, when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to most vessels, in response to joint strikes by the United States and Israel.
The closure has raised serious concerns about global energy supplies, as a significant portion of the world’s oil shipments passes through the narrow waterway.
So far, the conflict has reportedly claimed more than 1,300 lives, including over a hundred children at a girls’ primary school. Iran has continued retaliatory missile and drone strikes, further intensifying tensions across the region.
