On the 10th day of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, a major explosion struck Bahrain on March 9, shaking the country and injuring dozens of civilians.
The blast took place in the Mahazza area of Sitra Island, on the outskirts of the capital Manama, a region known for its oil refinery facilities. At least 32 people, including children, were injured, with several reported in critical condition. Homes were damaged, and the area was left covered in debris and dust, according to footage from the scene.
Initial statements from Bahrain and Washington blamed an Iranian drone attack. However, analysis by a group of academic researchers suggests that the missile involved may have been part of the Patriot missile system operated by the United States.
In response to questions from Reuters, Bahraini authorities acknowledged for the first time that a Patriot interceptor missile was involved in the incident. A government spokesperson said the system successfully intercepted an Iranian drone in the air, potentially preventing fatalities.
The spokesperson added that the injuries and damage were not directly caused by either the Patriot interceptor or the drone hitting the ground. However, neither Bahrain nor the United States has presented clear evidence linking the घटना to an Iranian drone.
The incident has raised concerns internationally, as conflicting accounts continue to emerge about the true cause of the explosion.
