Amid the ongoing conflict, Iran has emphasized that a temporary suspension of attacks is not a solution, calling instead for a “comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire.”
This position was conveyed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during a phone conversation with Wang Yi. Araghchi stated that Tehran firmly supports a lasting resolution rather than short-term measures.
He also clarified that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all, and commercial vessels can safely pass through the route. However, he indicated that this access is not being considered for the United States and Israel.
In response, Wang Yi stressed the importance of dialogue, stating that “negotiation is always better than war.” He urged all parties involved in the conflict to seize every opportunity to restore peace.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that there had been agreement with Iran on “almost all points.” Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Palm Beach, he stated that any deal would require an end to war and a commitment from Iran not to possess nuclear weapons. “They are agreeing to that. There will be no deal beyond these conditions,” he said.
Just before making that statement, Trump announced a five-day suspension of a planned attack on Iran’s power facilities, citing “productive discussions” with Tehran.
Earlier on Saturday, Trump had warned that the United States would begin strikes on Iran’s power plants within 48 hours if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened.
