Two high-ranking Mossad officials have been abruptly dismissed by Mossad Director Roman Gofman following the collapse of a sophisticated, US-coordinated covert strategy aimed at instigating regime change within Iran, Israel’s Channel 12 reported on Thursday (August 7).

The ousted officials—whose identities remain classified—headed Mossad’s Intelligence Division and Iran Department, respectively.

According to intelligence leaks, the classified operation—formulated alongside the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)—envisioned catalyzing anti-regime insurgencies and leveraging armed Kurdish factions under the cover of potential joint airstrikes.

However, severe friction regarding operational priorities between Chief Gofman and his departmental heads, coupled with execution failures, led to the immediate termination of the project. The intelligence purge underscores escalating regional friction near the Strait of Hormuz, following earlier acknowledgments by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that destabilizing Tehran's leadership presents formidable strategic hurdles.
