Turkey is acting as an intermediary between Iran and the United States, facilitating the exchange of messages aimed at reducing tensions and paving the way for possible negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.
Harun Armagan, Vice Chairman for Foreign Affairs of Turkey’s ruling AK Party, confirmed the development to the media. He stated that Ankara is playing a role in relaying messages between Tehran and Washington.
“The primary goal of these exchanges is to de-escalate tensions between the two countries and open a path for direct talks,” Armagan said.
Turkey maintains strong relations with both the United States and Iran, positioning itself as a potential mediator. Leveraging this diplomatic advantage, Ankara is also coordinating with several other countries to strengthen its role in possible peace efforts.
The development comes amid escalating conflict in the Middle East. Since February 28, the United States and Israel have jointly carried out strikes on Iran, prompting retaliatory attacks from Tehran. The conflict has now entered its 26th consecutive day.
Iran has continued to target U.S. military installations in Israel and across Gulf countries, further intensifying the regional crisis. The situation has turned the Middle East into a volatile flashpoint.
In a significant escalation, Iran has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes. This disruption has triggered severe instability in global energy markets.
