The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 2,954, while 16,592 people have been injured, according to a statement released by the country's Ministry of Information and Communication on Saturday.
The ministry said that 6,462 people have been rescued since the disaster struck. A total of 856 buildings have been damaged, including 190 structures that were completely destroyed.
Authorities also reported that approximately 3,281 international rescue personnel have been deployed to assist with emergency operations. In addition, the government has mobilized 29,567 workers from the capital, Caracas, to support rescue, relief, and recovery efforts.
Officials said rescue teams remain active in the hardest-hit areas to ensure public safety and assist with ongoing recovery and reconstruction efforts.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Venezuela was struck on June 24 by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, occurring just 39 seconds apart. Since then, 942 aftershocks have been recorded, complicating rescue efforts and raising concerns over further damage.
