Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that it successfully shot down two American drones near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The report was published on Tuesday by Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency.
According to a statement issued by the IRGC's Hormozgan public relations office, the air defense unit of the Imam Sajjad Corps targeted and destroyed two U.S. Lucas one-way attack drones after detecting them over the Bandar Khamir area in southern Hormozgan province. Washington has not yet released any immediate official comments regarding Tehran's claims.
Tensions in the region have remained exceptionally high since the outbreak of the conflict between Iran and the U.S.-Israeli coalition on February 28. Throughout the hostilities, the U.S. military has repeatedly targeted Iranian defense installations and strategic positions. In response, the IRGC has heightened its maritime monitoring around the Strait of Hormuz and reinforced air defense capabilities across the southern provinces.
The incident follows a reported strike on Monday by U.S. forces against a surface-to-air missile launcher on Iran's Qeshm Island, after it allegedly attempted to target American military aircraft. These continuous escalations have further heightened security concerns across the critical waterway.
