'India Does Not Support Sheikh Hasina's Remarks': External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India officially clarified its diplomatic posture regarding recent public remarks made by ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in New Delhi.

Addressing the weekly press briefing on Friday (August 7), MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal affirmed, "The Government of India had no role in that event, nor does it support any statements made there." Jaiswal clarified that the press interaction was arranged independently by a private entity and that New Delhi holds no association with her commentary concerning Bangladesh's current interim setup.

The clarification follows a stern diplomatic protest issued by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 5.

Dhaka strongly condemned the media engagement held on the second anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, characterizing Hasina's presence and rhetoric on Indian soil as a direct affront to Bangladesh's national sovereignty and an insult to the martyrs of the movement. Bangladesh further warned that allowing such platforms to an exiled, convicted political figure risks derailing ongoing efforts to recalibrate constructive bilateral relations between the two neighbors.
