There is no alternative to following the ideals of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) for anyone who wishes to practice purity and morality in every sphere of life, speakers said at a Seerat event in Dhaka on Saturday (15 November).

They emphasized that true love for the Prophet cannot flourish in one’s heart without studying his life. This is why his biography has been written in countless languages, inspiring millions around the world to bring light back into their own lives. To illuminate our own lives, there is no substitute for studying the Seerat-un-Nabi (SAW), they added.

The discussion took place at the World Literature Centre in Banglamotor, where the literary platform Somodhara organized its fourth Seerat event.

This year’s event was divided into two segments. The first segment featured the recitation-based presentation “The Light–4,” designed around the majesty and noble virtues of the Prophet (SAW). The performance highlighted key phases of the Prophet’s life: the circumstances preceding his birth; realization and propagation of truth; steadfastness in faith amid persecution; the Hijrah and its promise of a golden dawn; the establishment of a new social order in Madinah; the historic Battle of Badr; ensuring the rights of the poor over the wealth of the rich; and the lessons from the Battle of Uhud—how a setback turned into eventual triumph.

This year’s “The Light–4” focused particularly on: the Prophet’s efforts to build a classless society in Madinah after the Hijrah; granting dignity and social status to slaves; the trials following Badr; the Battle of the Trench; and the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. The production incorporated verses from the Qur’an as well as original poetry dedicated to the Prophet (SAW) by members of the Somodhara family.

Poems for the presentation were written by Hasan Hafiz, Farid Ahmed Dulal, Rezauddin Stalin, Omar Kaiser, Arif Moinuddin, Badal Mehedi, Shamim Ahmed, Gazi Abu Hanif, Abu Jafar Sikder, Iftekhar Halim, Tuya Noor, and Yasin Aziz.

Performers included Syeda Azdika Kamal, Asma Debyani, Masum Azizul Basar, Md. Zakir Molla, Najhatul Toya, Sifat Salam, Basudev Nath, Farin Tamanna, Abdul Malek, Abdul Quddus Galib, Jannat Ara Momtaj, Meherun Nahar Meghla, Salek Nasir Uddin, Akash Ahmed, and Imam-ul Huda.
The production was conceptualized and directed by Somodhara editor Salek Nasir Uddin.

The second segment featured an open discussion titled “Prophet Muhammad (SAW): The Beloved of My Heart.” The keynote paper was presented by writer and researcher Chowdhury Monjur Liaqat Rumi. Other speakers included poet-editor Farid Ahmed Dulal, fiction writer Dipu Mahmud, writer A.F.M. Mahbubur Rahman, poet-editor Monsur Aziz, writer-researcher A.K.M. Rezaul Karim, and writer-teacher Syeda Azdika Kamal.

At the event, Somodhara’s 108th issue—dedicated to the Prophet (SAW)—was formally launched. The issue includes 30 articles and 10 poems.

Notable contributors include Muhammad Nurul Huda, Chowdhury Monjur Liaqat Rumi, Farid Ahmed Dulal, A.F.M. Mahbubur Rahman, Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman, Mohammad Masuduzzaman, Monsur Aziz, Dipu Mahmud, A.K.M. Rezaul Karim, Dr. Muhammad Kamal Uddin, Afroza Hira, Tahmina Shilpi, Atika Hasan, Samsuddin Hira, Ummul Khair, Neela Harun, Syeda Azdika Kamal, Salma Beg, and Jannatul Adn.

Speaking about the overall initiative, event organizer and editor Salek Nasir Uddin said,
“This was the fourth Seerat event arranged by Somodhara in honor of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). We nurture this event with great care as a family. InshaAllah, the fifth edition will be held next year, and in 2027 we hope to organize a much larger event on an even grander scale. Five special issues dedicated to the Prophet are being published over five years. From these, we hope to compile a comprehensive volume titled ‘Nabiji’ in the future.”
