Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in the state of Alaska. Trump made the announcement on Friday through his social media platform, Truth Social, according to a report by Anadolu Agency.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“My much-anticipated meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place this coming Friday (August 15) in the GREAT STATE OF ALASKA. Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this important matter!”

Trump had previously hinted that a meeting with Putin was imminent, but until now, had withheld the date and location. He explained that he did not want the announcement to overshadow a peace agreement signed at the White House on Friday between Armenia and Azerbaijan—a deal that he claims was mediated by his administration.

According to Trump, Putin expressed a strong desire to meet "as soon as possible." He also revealed that Russia and Ukraine are negotiating a peace deal that includes a territorial exchange.

“This is a very complex matter,” Trump said. “Some areas will be returned, and others will change hands. The goal is to make territorial adjustments that benefit both sides. We’ll share more details on this either later today or tomorrow.”

Trump also claimed that European leaders support a peace agreement between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I believe President Putin wants peace, and so does Zelensky,” Trump said. “Now, President Zelensky has to prepare everything necessary, because he will need to sign something. I think he's working hard on that.”

Earlier this week, Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, traveled to Moscow and met with President Putin. It was Witkoff’s fifth visit to Russia this year, with the previous meeting taking place on April 25. This most recent trip occurred just two days before the 10-day deadline Trump reportedly gave Russia to finalize a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine.

Putin’s top aide, Yuri Ushakov, described the meeting as “productive and constructive.”
