On the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a high-level multilateral summit was held bringing together the President of the United States and leaders from eight Arab and OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) member states to address the ongoing humanitarian and political crisis in Gaza.

Initiated and co-hosted by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the summit saw participation from several key regional leaders. These included King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly of Egypt, UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

Unified Call for Ceasefire and Humanitarian Relief

During the meeting, the Arab and OIC leaders collectively thanked President Trump for convening the urgent summit and drew attention to the dire humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip. They warned of the escalating human toll, regional instability, and broader consequences for the Muslim world.

The leaders issued a unified call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. They also reiterated their rejection of any plans for forced displacement of Palestinians and emphasized the right of return for those who have fled the violence.

Support for Stabilization and Reconstruction Efforts

The summit participants underlined the necessity of developing a detailed stabilization plan for Gaza, ensuring regional security and safeguarding the sanctity of Jerusalem’s holy sites. They expressed support for ongoing reform efforts within the Palestinian Authority, and stressed the importance of maintaining stability in both Gaza and the West Bank.

The leaders backed a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, to be developed under the Arab and OIC frameworks, with broad international assistance to support Palestinian governance and rebuilding efforts. The goal, they affirmed, was not only immediate relief but also a sustainable path toward peace.

Trump’s Leadership Welcomed

Throughout the summit, participating leaders underscored the significance of President Trump's leadership in facilitating this dialogue. They voiced a strong commitment to cooperate with the United States to end the ongoing conflict and to "open horizons" for a just and lasting peace in the region.

In closing, leaders expressed hope that this summit would mark the beginning of a broader peace process rooted in regional cooperation and international support, leading to long-term stability and the restoration of Palestinian lives and livelihoods.

Outlook

While the summit did not yield immediate agreements, it signaled a rare moment of multilateral engagement involving both Arab and Islamic countries with the United States. Observers note that the coordinated stance may add new diplomatic pressure to halt hostilities and initiate a political track toward resolving one of the most enduring crises in the Middle East.
